Elizabeth Talledo/Cross-stitch designer will return again this year from September 21 - 23 2012.
Maritime Sewing Box
This wonderful set of nested sewing boxes are a must have for anyone's collection. The outer box has sea creatures, boats and a small village surrounding the box. The inside of this box is lined with silk and has three sections for holding small sewing implements and accessories. The inner box has two panels that students will pre-stitch with a verse. These lids open to expose a place to hold a small pair of scissors and a mother of pearl ruler. There is room to hold other sewing accessories. The verse on the box reads "my soul seeks the tranquility of the sea as life brews a storm of toil and trouble" and the other panel is for personalization. The pre-work is less than 10 hours.
Holds a lovely mother of pearl ruler and a small pair of scissors to be included.
This two day class was designed for finishing and painting on linen techniques. Students will pre stitch two panels with a verse and personalization for the lids for the inner box. The inner box will be constructed on day one. All the construction techniques needed to complete the outer box will be acquired on day one. Day two students will paint the linen for the outer box and start the stitching for the outer panels. Pre-stitching should be less than 10-20 hours and will be over one and two threads. The class will focus on assembling the inner box and painting on linen fabric. Students will cover 2ply and 4 ply cotton matte board with linen and fabric. They will use magnets for closures on the box. The lids to the inner box will have a scissor sheath and mother of pearl ruler on the underside. The scissors will be held in place by magnets under the lining fabric. Both lids to the inner box will be hinged using the Ladder Stitch. The inner box will lift out to expose sectional dividers that can be used to store sewing implements.
The box was designed to introduce students to finishing techniques using archival materials making a lidded box with an inside insert, dividers and expose them to painting techniques on linen. The approximate size of the box will be 8" length, 4" wide and 6" depth. The inner sectional dividers will be exposed in the outer box that are used as support and to provide dividers to hold sewing supplies. The scene will protray a small harbor with sea creatures.
The class will be held in the wonderful foothills of Glendale, at Rancho San Rafael Recreation Center in Glendale, Ca. Take 134 east to 2N freeway exit Mountain, take right @light whch is Rancho San Rafael, go up hill past two stop signs, on left is the recreation center parking.
